The Contrarian covers the Democracy Movement
Friday: No Kings Day rallies in Texas, Pennsylvania, and California, and ICE protest in New York, plus looking ahead to July.
Every day (Monday-Friday), we’ll update this space with protests, signs and other public demonstrations against the actions of the administration. Keep checking to see how Americans all across the country are protecting and defending democracy. Find protests in your area at mobilize.us, and send us your protest photos at submit@contrariannews.org.

On Tuesday, dozens of Americans attended a U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing at which lawmakers planned to discuss cuts to Medicaid. The New York Times reported:
Minutes later, a group of protesters in the back of the Capitol Hill hearing room began shouting at lawmakers to “keep your greedy hands off our Medicaid.”
They drowned out the chairman’s calls for order, and Capitol Police officers ultimately removed five people — three in wheelchairs — as the dozens of lawmakers on the panel looked on. (The Capitol Police later said that officers had arrested 26 people for illegally protesting inside a congressional building.)
Indivisible’s Stop the Cuts Neighbor2Neighbor campaign connects people affected by the proposed Medicaid cuts to others to create a chain of action in support of the social safety net that provides critical heath care to millions of Americans.

We don’t usually include congressional testimony as protest, but Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Ill.) telling Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem that her department is not following the law and not letting Noem spew propaganda instead of answering questions surely could qualify. For more on the Chuck Grassley town hall, we recommend this opening monologue from The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Two people were arrested at a Wednesday town hall in Marjorie Taylor Green’s Georgia district, including one just as the meeting began. The MAGA Republican later drew a parallel to the illegal deportation of Kilmar Abrego García.
